Backdrop
--------

 Andrew Hunter, 1996

This is part of the MultiUtils package - read the licence there for details of
how you may distribute it.

This software replaces !BackDrop, the most successful (haha) ShareWare program
of all time. It's FreeWare now, but you can send money anyway. If you send
enough, I'll test this for StrongARM compatibility. I write good code, so
this *SHOULD* be StrongARM compatable, but you never know...

This program provides a replacement pinboard utility. Simply double click on
it and it will load. The only thing you'll notice straight away is that whatever
you previously had on your pinboard has just disappeared. Backdrop has been
designed to behave like the standard pinboard as much as possible, so the menus
are the same, etc. The new features are all accessed through the Options menu
option that distinguishes the backdrop menu from the others. What you get is:

Colour - sets the colour of your backdrop, for those who like to customise.

Auto Arrange - if you are sick of clicking on 'tidy' over and over again,
  then this is for you...
    On - turn it on
'Big icons' - some things like the 'Acorn logo' use a very cunning method
to stick a big icon to the desktop. If this is turned off, then these
icons will not be auto arranged.
Applications, Directories, Files, Windows - where they go. I'm sure you can
work out that nice graphical representation.

Grid Lock - where the grid lock is based around on the screen.

Plinths - turn 'em on, and your icons get pretty textured backgrounds. Turn
    'em off and they don't.

Fonts - mainly for people with pre-RISC PC machines, this allows you to have
outline fonts on the backdrop. Specifically, Trinity.Medium 13pt...

Drag files to run - with this on, dragging a file to an icon on the backdrop
will cause that program to load with that file...

OK, that's it. I know this help file's a bit brief, but I've only just got
around to releasing this and have just realised, 1 hour before a film, that
lots of things need doing. Seeing as a lot of the operation is much like
pinboard, you shouldn't have much trouble. Any bug reports to the usual address:

Don't be afraid to write... I happen to be a very nice person and won't write
any rude replies that might offend you (well, something has got to get a
response from the people taht use this sofware). I actually know of a couple
of bugs which crop up every so often, but only on out very sad system at
school which hasn't been updated since 1954, and I feel that it isn't entirely
*my* fault...

Other thangs by me
------------------

I can't write much, seeing as there has just been a power cut and the film is
in only ten minutes... but you'll want to look at !QTM and Hiper Help. Libstore
2 is pretty good too.

Andrew Hunter.
